​​OHTLI Award, from the Republic of Mexico, 2013. The Ohtli award is the highest honor bestowed by the Government of Mexico to individuals that have stood out for their work in favor of the empowerment of the Mexican diaspora and helped to “open the path” for the new Mexican American and Latino generations.

Governor's Citation from the State of Maryland for leadership, knowledge and impressive contributions as a key leader in promoting biomedical research and biotechnology in Latin America.

First Award of Innovation in Brazil of Medical devices technology, November 2012. Invention of CERCA device, diagnostic and therapeutic device for the prevention of cervical cancer.

​Paper of the Month by the American Society of Microbiology, USA, 1994. Written while a graduate student, this paper focused on the molecular mimicry of HIV. Also chosen as Harvard paper of the year. Molecular Mimicry between the Human Immunodeficiency Virus Type 1 gpl20 V3 Loop and Human Brain Proteins
